Extremely Rare Edo Period Isho Ningyo Pulling a Wagon with a Crane. Early 18th Century Ningyo like this very rarely come up for sale. This Isho Ningyo is special, as it resembles a Karakui (mechanical) Ningyo. This important Ningyo has a classic face with painted features, sumptuous embroidered textiles, and is pulling a cart that has a crane inside. It stands on a lacquered base. A similar example is in the Homa Museum in Japan. 14.5h x 9.5w inches, 37h x 24w cm.

A rare bamboo chado tea caddy for powdered green tea, the interior covered with black lacquer. The exterior carved with the four gentlemen of winter: plum, bamboo, chrysanthemum and orchid. Subtly embellished with silver wire. Condition: lower part with a crack, silver wire partially lost, a bit dusty, traces of age. Dimension: height: c. 6.3 cm, diameter: c. 5.7 cm.

Nita A ring of skulls playfully sojourn on the front of this rather unusual deep Edo Karatsu Chawan. On back another pair tumble helplessly over the thick speckled glaze. The base is bare earth, dark and shiny with age and handling. The skulls are not just resist painted on, but are actually incised, the eyes and nostrils set deep into the southern clay. The bowl is 3-1/2 inches (8.5 cm) tall, roughly 4 inches (10.5 cm) diameter and is in excellent condition, enclosed in a wooden box.

Both inside and out hash mars denote a bamboo fence with blossoms in the fore. What a fantastic expression worn by this Edo p. Seto Hand warmer (hibachi or properly Shuro/ Te-abure). The dark shiny Seto glaze suits well the beast portrayed. Coals would have been burned inside, heating the surrounding pottery walls, and the piece would have been placed on a step leading into the house for guests to warm their hands on or used within the house in a more formal room. It is 13 inches (33 cm) long and is in fine condition overall...

We kindly like to offer you a very unique tea bowl, made around 1800. Very sophisticated Karatsu Chawan, perfect in form and shape.

It presents a real wabi sabi aura with its fantastic lacquer-silver repair and its antique Japanese characters on. The 1st one seem to be Sakura (Cherry), and the 2nd probably Umi (ocean), but they are hard to read.

Size: 10 cm height x 10,5 cm in diameter.
