Antique Japanese raincoat made of hand-woven indigo cotton with sixteen panels, dyed using a technique called ikat, in which bindings are applied to the cotton threads in any desired pattern and dye is applied over them. The bindings resist the dye, leaving behind patterns in the original color of the threads. A latticework Hoya of solid silver caps this fine porcelain koro incense burner, a joint work by Miura Chikusen and Hashimoto Kansentsu, enclosed in the original shiho-kiri-wood box signed by both artists. It is 8.5 cm (3-1/2 inches) tall 11 x 16 cm across the handles (4-1/2 x 6-1/2 inches). Beast heads form the handles with a scholarly hut on one side, a poem in ancient script opposite. It is signed on the base by Chikusen and on the side by Kansetsu...

Superb Taisho Period C. 1915 Japanese tea ceremony bronze flower vase. Placed in the tokonoma of a Japanese Tea House with a single flower it evokes the essence of wab sabi and the soul of the tea ceremony. Lovely art deco bulbous shape with wave diaper on the base. This is a wonderful tea bowl of Japanese Hagi Ware, which was made about 100 years ago.

The seal of the potter is stamped on the bottom. Some natural glaze cracks, which were intentionally created in the time of the firing process, are very nice. This bowl has an authentic wabi sabi taste.

Wooden carving of Daruma or Bodhidharma, a Buddhist monk who lived in the 5th or 6th century CE. He is depicted as ill-tempered and is shown here with a deep frown as he meditates. This Daruma carving is painted with red, bronze, and gold lacquer paint and appears to have once been mounted as the top and bottom have holes carved into them and a metal rod going through it to be affixed to a structure, most likely a lamp. Meiji period 19th century. Size: 13" height, 11" length
