A pottery tradition that harkens from the Mino region of Japan, Shino-yaki dates from the Azuchi Momoyama period. It came into fashion when first commissioned by renowned Muromachi cha-jin (tea masters) Shino Soushin. This is thought to be the first type of pottery in Japan to feature drawn paintings on the ceramic surface.

A very large celadon platter by Yoshikawa Masamichi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is made to either sit or hang suspended from wire on the back. The platter is 75 x 20 x 5 cm (29-1/2 x 8 x 2 inches) and is in excellent condition. Due to size the cost of shipping will be accrued separately.
Yoshikawa Masamichi was born in Kanagawa in 1946, and graduated the Japanese Design Academy in 1968...

Meiji Period 19th Century

This superb helmet bowl is comprised of 64 iron plates that are slightly embossed between the suji, double front plates, and a washer underneath the top front riveted inside. The bowl has been given a very dark russet finish and fitted with a simple iron visor. The meadate is a forged iron hornet with gilt brass wings. The shikkoro of five - lames of false scale laced in blue silk and brown russet lacquer...

Antique Japanese tamba storage jar. Large open mouth with akadobe glaze, which consists of russet and blue runny glaze. Tapers in shape down to the base. This form is animated through the irregularities of the firing of the kiln.

Antique Japanese carved Keyaki hardwood Raijin, God of lightning, thunder, and Storm. A protector deity for the Shinto religion. The surface of the grain is raised with the original red rimpa paint still intact. Typically these sculptures would be very fierce with demonic features. Which in this case, is contrary which makes it more benevolent, compassionate, and sympathetic in its appeal. The condition of the piece is consistent of its age. A dark blue hemp fabric forms the base of these kote sleeve guards. The upper area is covered in iron chain mail with pair of double gourd plates, crest mon, gilt iron plates, throughout the kote. The shoulder edge has three hinge plates to fashion to the Do armor. Unusually mounted on a custom black iron stand.

Stunning antique Japanese two panel folding silver leaf screen. Oxidized silver leaf on layered gofun paper, mounted on Hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood lattice construction. Wonderful original condition with no tears or condition issues. Unframed to give a more deconstructed esthetic.

A set of six plates with a central floral arrangement in a dragon flanked base surrounded by eight alternating panels of florals and scenes. The back is signed in Chinese style referring to the Ming Dynasty. Age: Late Taisho Period. Size: Diameter. 12.3cm. Condition: Perfect.

An exceptionally rare and beautiful ANTIQUE JAPANESE POLYCHROME TEXTILE SILK ROLL depicting Phoenix, Drum, Waves and Flowers. Good condition overall. Size: L. 13 feet x W. 27". Provenance: ex-Collection of famed H. MEDILL SARKISIAN, Denver, Colorado.

Of octagonal shape, decorated with Japanese ladies and floral panels. Signed: made in Hirado by Kusae'. Considering the size these were probably chocolate cups made for the export. The cups are 11,5 cm tall and 10 cm in diameter. The saucers are 15 cm in diameter. The set is in pristine condition.

Wooden shishi carvings used as architectural elements placed under the eaves of Shinto and Buddhist temples to ward off evil spirits. Beautifully carved keyaki wood shishi with glass reverse painted eyes.
