Beautiful keyaki wood choba tansu (merchant's chest), from the Matsumoto region of Japan. It has a beautiful allover woodgrain and has black iron hardware with iron studding. It has two sliding panels with an iron lock down its center, drawers of varying sizes with warabite handles, and a pull-away panel with a kan (ring pull) handle, opening to a small compartment. White jadeite carving, with areas of orange, of a smiling immortal man with long, flowing robes and his hair tied into a bun. He is identified as an immortal being by his long earlobes. His left hand holds the sash of his belt, while his right hand holds what appears to be a yoke over his shoulder. Wonderfully detailed shell open container, carved and pierced all around with twisting vines and branches bearing fruit, with carved rodent-like creatures that move loosely within the vegetation. An extremely cute pair of ceramic sculptures of two young Chinese children peeking over a balcony. The pair of children appear to be fragments of an old roof tile, and each one is set upon a wooden stand. The modeling of the children is exceptional, especially the character in their faces. An antique Chinese Lingbi stone (scholar's rock or spirit stone) has a very distinct ring when it is struck. Scholar's rocks are appreciated for their unusual shapes, asymmetry, color and texture. Scholars refer to them as "bones of the earth". It is a carved blackish stone overhang with perforations. It set upon a contemporary Shuozhou style carved rosewood base with 4 rounded feet.

Smooth and serene Marble Shakyamuni Buddha subduing Mara. Robe and base are brown with some fine details and gilding. The head of the Buddha is covered with a multitude of small pointed hairlocks called "Shwebo-thorns" on top of which is the stupa shaped flame.
