Large single panel ikat from Jepara, Java, Indonesia. L: 2.9meters x 1.2 meters. The bright yellow and blue thread are chemical dyed commercial cotton, but the rest is handspun threads and vegetable dyes. This was made in the late 1980s and perhaps it would have been made into several sarongs or a commercial arts and crafts export. Very dramatic pattern. Supple cloth.
