sonorous and has a nice relief design on top. Beautiful naturally aged patina and comes with an attractive custom made stand. Some inconsequential wear due to considerable age.
Size: H. 7 cm. including top loop x 4.5 cm. without the stand.

Sold in our Liverpool Shop - December 2016 A baluster shaped vase painted in exceptionally vibrant shades of under glaze cobalt blue depicting stylized peony flowers and flying insects within shaped panels. There is an artemesia leaf mark within a double ring on the base.
This item was made in China during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662-1722).
Condition: there is no cover and there is a Y-shaped hairline on the neck which forks 1cm from the rim and does not extend to the body (please view enlargements 6 & 7); no further damage...

Hotei is interestingly dressed with motifs of dragons and scrolling clouds, inspired by Chinese brocades. Price on Request An interesting square porcelain brush pot with a long inscription of the Chu Shi Biao composed by the 3rd century strategist, Zhuge Liang. The inscription makes the argument that the state of Shu Han must fight against Cao Wei. The calligrapher at the end signs and dates the piece: The 23rd Year of Kangxi, (inscribed by) Wen Fang. Sold in our Liverpool Shop - June 2015 / 利物浦 店内售出 - 2015年6月 A white porcelain "Blanc-de-Chine" Buddhist Lion incense stick holder in similar style to the larger Guardian Lions which are frequently to be found at the entrances to Buddhist temples. These were probably originally made for domestic home altars and were among the first items to be exported to Europe from China as decorative objects.
This item was made in the kilns of Dehua, Fujian Province, South China ,circa 1640-1660, during the middle of the 17th Century.
