Chinese blanc de chine porcelain statue of Quan Yin, the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion. Her name is short for Guanshiyin, meaning "Observing the Cries of the World." She stands upon strong, rolling winds and holds a lotus flower in her left hand. Original Japanese kabuki actor color woodblock print by artist Toyohara Kunichika, 1835 – 1900. Beautifully framed and matted measuring 17" x 22", the print site size is 9.75" x 13.5". Any streaking is reflection from the glass. Print does not appear to have any condition issues.

The design of butterflies and melons is seldom encountered on Chinese porcelain, found only on a few Qianlong pieces. This shaped dish I feel is from the early 19th century but the ‘orange peel’ surface of the porcelain is often found on Qianlong export pieces. Like the Qianlong painted melons these have a pronounced ‘spotting’ in either famille rose or gold enamel on the fruits.
