SOLD Japanese calligraphy box made with Keyaki (elm) wood in original dark red lacquer finish. The lid lifts open on three iron hinges with a top iron handle to a shallow lacquered compartment for storing calligraphy papers, and closes securely with a small iron latch. The front of the box holds three drawers with iron lock plates and handles on floral shaped iron mounts.

This plate was one of the party wares with similar designs made for Emperor Guangxu's wedding in 1888. The plate is in excellent condition beside some scratches on enamel - no chip, no hairline and no restoration. Diameter: 9"
