Japanese Meiji period coppery bronze hibachi or hand warmer decorated in high relief with two opposing panels, one featuring scholars in a pine grove and a second with an old man and child under cherry trees. Lion head relief handles at the two sides. With hot coals inside, this type of hibachi was designed to heat a small area in a home. Circa 1900. 7" high x 7 1/4" diameter. Weighs 5 lbs.
