Rare old Cambodian woven bamboo lacquered scroll box with a partial mother of pearl inlay design, circa early 20th CE. This is an unusually large piece in good original condition, some surface loss to the lacquer but no breakage on the woven walls. The body is still pliable, the lid is a bit scuffed- to be expected from an old item. H: 42cm/16.5in and D: 13cm/5.1.

Top features a bas relief in the concentric circles with families of stacking frogs on each of four positions. Elephant figurals shown marching up to each handle. Rare three paneled men’s wrap from the Nung/Rawang ethnic group of the Kachin State, Burma. The weaving technique and materials are quite unique which I have not encountered with any other ethnic group. The base warp and weft foundation is made from nettle fiber, the pile is made from cotton, and the finished maroon colored ends are finished in wool. All the fibers on this piece are handspun with the exception of the bright colored yarn which are “store bought” synthetics...

Nice old antique black lacquered bamboo and wood box from Cambodia circa 1950 or earlier. This part of a collection I acquired almost 20 years ago. Khmer lacquer is quite rare, not many crafts survived the Khmer Rouge era, and is a lost art. Some wear and restoration as to be expected but no major damage. D: 5cm/7.8in and H: 10.5cm/4.1in.

Antique Thai Iron Standing Buddha, early Ayutthaya period 14th century, heavy oxidation but still delightful. The right hand is raised from the elbow in Abhaya with the hand in Gyan mudra, the left is holding possible a sacred medicine ball. The figure is on tiered square stand, and stands in a thin delicate pose.

Large Khmer pedestal jar circa 12th century with dark brown glaze. This piece has a large restoration to the top - normally the neck would be much longer but this has taken the piece from another, of the period jar, and attached it to this. Overall the glaze is excellent on this piece and has retained its elegance. H: 30cm/12in and D: 23cm/9in. This piece is quite heavy and weighs 3.5kg.

Small wide mouth grey pottery jar with “soy” brown glaze from an unknown Southern Kiln. The glaze resembles Jizhou ware. Circa Song Dynasty or earlier, the body is quite thinly potted with delicate lugs near the mouth. There is fritting on the mouth and handle but no cracks or chips. H: 9cm/3.5in and D: 6cm/2.3in.

Nepalese Stone mandorla shaped stele with Vishnu four-armed striding the earth with his giant stride. Light grey stone plinth with devotee and consorts at lotus throne base. Rough back at reverse. Hishnu was know to be able to cover the entire distance around earth in three strides.
