The central panel is decorated using the Shibayama technique, which involves inlaying finely carved pieces of materials such as mother-of-pearl, bone, and various stones onto a lacquered surface. 19th C wood netsuke depicting a cat among kitchen utensils. Very well naturalistically carve, eyes double inlayed. Signed with somewhat stylized signature in an oval reserve. 1 ¾ ” x 1 ½ “ 45 x 38 mm.

The box is circular, possibly alluding to a "full moon," with gilded rims. The cover is decorated in relief with flowers, leaves, and birds, utilizing mixed-metal inlay techniques on a dark patinated bronze or shakudo ground. Signed. 5 ½ ” x 2 “ 138 x 57 mm.

The technique includes intricate gold and silver inlays on an iron or antimony base. The central medallion depicts a detailed landscape scene, potentially featuring a temple like Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto, overlooking a river valley with boats. Signed in gold.
