top of the larger. Chestnuts, found all over Japan, are considered a symbol of victory and a good omen.

Round tebako cosmetic box decorated with flowers in gold maki-e lacquer on a black background. Among the flowers are Japanese irisies, peonies and bamboo. Only the top compartment opens, the middle one being dummy. The box have three levels with a red lacquer interior.
Ivory netsuke of a guardian lion, komainu in Japanese or shishi in Chinese, with golden eyes. Resting on its front paws, its head is turned backwards on a four-lobed base. The komainu is inspired by the Chinese guardian lion shishi, which dates back to the Tang dynasty (581-618). Supposed to ward off evil, it appears on both sides of doors
and portals in Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples

$500.00 A very fine small, square vase of stoneware with the characteristic square neck of Hamada Shoji, Mashiko School as there is no documented box to confirm it. The body is decorated with a black glaze over an iron-brown/ rust-colored Kaki-yu glaze to depict a flowering branch on front and back. This effect was undoubtedly achieved through the use of paper stencils. H 15.5 cm, W 11 cm. Condition: Excellent.

The artwork showcases a serene natural landscape that harmoniously blends various elements of traditional Japanese art... A broad rippling pattern covers this raw earthen plate by Bizen veteran Konishi Tozo enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Fumon Chjokkaku Bachi (Wind Pattern Rectangular Dish). It is 48 x 30.5 x 6.5 cm (19 12 x 2-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition.
Konishi Tozo was born in 1947 in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecure. He was first selected for the 18th Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition (Dento Kogei-ten) in 1971... A black or bridges the rim of this exquisite bowl by Fujihira Yasushi enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Under the moon). It is 12.5 cm (5 inches) diameter, 9.5 cm just less than 4 inches) tall and in perfect condition.
