A well carved bamboo Zen image of Hotei, the God of good fortune, also known as the Laughing Buddha (Budai in Chinese), he is always depicting cheerful buddhist monk, with a big belly, a bag (holding a variety of things to be gifted to people ) and a fan. He was an historical figure that has become a very popular Buddhist Deity. Carved bamboo, Edo, 17th/18th century. H 12 cm. Very good condition.

Japanese antique bronze usubata, container for ikebana flower arranging, in the form of a lotus leaf standing on three feet shaped like lotus stems and flower pods. Two frogs are facing each other on either side of the bowl. The bronze has a deep reddish brown patina.

Meiji/Taisho period (c. early 1900's)

An ivory okimono from the Tokyo School, depicting a lively family of monkeys on a long branch, engaged in a game of contention over some freshly picked persimmons. The okimono rests on a finely carved wooden base. Period: Meiji, late 19th century. Dimensions: 36 x 11 x 6 cm. Condition: Excellent.

A pair of Japanese bronze vases with a cylindrical shape and dark brown patina, depicting a pair of egrets near a stream, with their feet immersed in the water and surrounded by two flowering iris plants. Masayuki signature is engraved under the base. Period: Meiji late 19th century. Dimensions: 22 x 9 x 9 cm. Condition: Excellent. There is slight superficial wear of the patina.

An ivory netsuke depicting a reclining shishi, with a ball between his teeth. The mouth and the ball are polychromed in a shade of bright red. Himotoshi under the belly. Period: Edo ca. 1800. Dimensions: 4.6 x 2.6 x 2 cm. Condition: Very good.
