An Unusually Large Blue and White Porcelain Sake Flask, 19th Century.

I cannot be certain of course but I have come across extra large tokkuri made for special celebrations. They were used I suspect to replenish smaller sake flasks at the gathering rather than individual cups. The bottle is of good quality and is very similar to the smaller Arita flasks. It has a slight step on the shoulder similar to some smaller examples...

A beautiful and well-preserved futon cover (futongawa or futonji) made of heavy cotton with the image of a large phoenix and stylized plants in vivid colours on the characteristic indigo ground (boro furoshiki). Bold Tsubaki designs cover this six sided Mizusashi Water Container by Ito Motohiko exhibited at the 34th Shinsaku Togeiten Exhibition of New Works (2006) enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Nunome Tsubaki Mon Mizusashi. It is 16 x 15 x 21.5 cm (6-1/2 x 6 x 8-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition, with the original ceramic lid.

Believed to be from the Hasami kiln, Nagasaki prefecture, towards the end of the 19th century. Also marked in underglaze blue are the initials C.P.D. for Comprador Deshima. Around the back of the bottle is found a stenciled seal of the C.P.D.

Comprador is Portuguese for "buyer"...

Sample book of small pattern katazome with 105 fragments which are plain silk, silk crepe, asa (hemp or ramie), and some rare shifu (woven of paper yarn). The title is "Edo Komon", but it includes asa fragments with komon (smal pattern) for Edo samurai's kamishimo as well as komon from other places out of Edo (Tokyo). Their ages are from late Edo (mid 19th century) to Taisho period (1912～1925) It has 50 pages which are washi (handmade paper) and has woodblock print frames and letters...

1934's Japanese Wooden Box Woven Bamboo Frame Mixed Metal Cover with Garden Scene Marked

The box is 2.3 inches (5.8 cm) tall by 5.9 inches (15 cm) long and 4.3 inches (11 cm) wide. It is 0.6 lb.

It is tarnished and has chips and peeling of lacquer at the inner rim, surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).
