Japanese print of a seated Buddha by the artist Shiko Munakata (1903-1975). A member of the sosaku-hanga movement and the mingei folk arts movement in Japan. Japanese print entitled "Last Supper" by Sadao Watanbe. Sadao Watanabe (1913-1996) was part of the Mingi (folk art) movement in Japan which involved the use of natural materials. Watanabe's early boyhood job as a textile dyer has influence his work greatly. He used organic mineral pigments with a soybean milk binder (katazome) on hand crumpled paper (momigami). Watanabe's upbringing as a Christian is the main influence of his subject matter...

A brilliant set of 5 gentlemen from the Edo Period C.1850 by Kunisada I, one of the masters of the time. He was given the name Toyokuni III by his famous teacher Toyokuni in 1844. Here we offer another Japanese tea kettle from our collection. It is a cast iron relief tetsubin from the late Edo Period. It is signed by the unknown artist. It has a tasteful design.

Inside is some rust but no water leak. Great atmosphere. A real antique tetsubin.

Japanese fune bako, or ship safe box, made from keyaki wood with its original lacquer. The top of the box has iron hinges and a warabite handle, which opens for storing calligraphy stones. The front has three drawers, one with a large iron lock.

A superbly crafted free standing image of a Heron standing high on a rocky outcrop, balanced on one leg, the other curled up tightly in its feathers. It is made in dusted silver, likely over a bronze body. The form is expertly crafted, incised with a fierce expression showing awe for the power of nature and its inhabitants. Keen eyes scan the river for fish, and the horizon for predators. Worn, we have had the original bolt fixing him to the rock bored and replaced...

A pair of hanging scrolls depicting the gods of wind and thunder: Futen or Fujin on the left and Raiden or Raijin on the right. Ink and colors on silk. Both signed Soseki saku and each with two seals, one of which reads Soseki as well. Japan. Late Meiji or Taisho era.
