A hawk rests on an elaborate perch, the feathers fluffed up, each uniquely carved on this rare okimono from the Mushiake kilns of Okayama prefecture. It comes in an ancient kiri-wood box. The notation on the side of the box states it was received in late Meiji 27 (1894) from the former Head of the Okayama fief Ikeda Mochimasa. The name of the recipient has been redacted, as is often the case when things change hands in Japan. It is 24 x 7.4 x 29 cm (9 x 3 x 11-1/2 inches)...

A small powerful work in clear glass covered in spiraling silver foil with a lid of opaque black by Ogawa Kaoru enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Ruri Koro. The piece is supported on three feet which seem to drip like black honey from the bottom while the same black crowns the six-sided form, rising in flutes to the finial. A striking work of heavy glass by Suzuki Genta enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shizuku Kaki (Dripping Vase). Thick dollops of glass run like giant rain drops over the surface. It is 36 cm (14 inches) tall, and in excellent condition.
Suzuki Genta was born in Kyoto in 1971, graduating the prestigious Doshisha Universtiy in 1994. That same year he packed up and went off to Sweden where he studied at the Kosta Glass School, graduating in 1996...

Porcelain ewer from the Kyushu Arita oven second part of the 17th century. We only know a few identical models, one, with its lid, is kept in the British museum, another is housed in Tokyo at the Idemitsu Museum and happens to be one of the major pieces of the collection, finally a last one, damaged and without a lid, was sold by Sothebys London on June 1, 1981. To our knowledge there are no others...

Exceedingly rare hard porcelain dish from arita. Painted in yellow, green, blue and red enamels. The decor represents many children, seated in a building in front of a covered vase, perhaps a funerary urn. Dominating the assembly, the central character of a trio is the only one wearing a hat. Above the trio three Chinese characters are drawn in red on a panel. It seems to be a religious ceremony but the youth of the assembly is perplexing. Understanding the 3 characters should solve the enigma...

A striking configuration by the rising young female artist Tanaka Yoko enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Yu-un Hai (Playful Clouds Cup). A striking glass bowl which defies explanation by important female glass artist Iwata Itoko enclosed in the original singed wooden box. Made like the feathers of a peacock, each blue flourish contains a round bead of air marking the eye of the feather. Incredible! It is 15 cm (6 inches) diameter and in excellent condition. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of her chawan, as she produced very few and only in the last years of her life.
