This rare stoneware jar was made during the Liao Dynasty (AD 907 - 1125). It is particularly "heavily-potted" and coated with a thick and uneven olive-green glaze, both inside and out. The upper surface of the small mouth as well as the flat base remain unglazed revealing the pale pinkish-brown body.

A really interesting Chinese Ming Cizhou vase of an unusual shape with large areas of underdeveloped Hare's Fur decoration splashed across the broad shoulders.
