An antique Japanese drawer Nagamochi Tansu (storage trunk) made of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. Unusual all drawer design with shallow upper trunk. All original lacquer finish with interior paper lining. Most likely used for the storage of large vertical textile banners used for advertising or Boy's day celebrations.

Age: Meiji period (1868-1880)

The artist fingers have dragged furrows into the crystalline porcelain of this Chawan studded with platinum thorns by Masatomo Toi enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Elegant, it would be perfectly at home in the confines of the tea room. It is 8 x 12.5 x 10 cm (3 x 5 x 4 inches) and is in excellent condition, directly from the artist.

Matte colors in olive and silver coat the fiddle head fronds sprouting from this clump of clay studded with mysterious orbs by Masatomo Toi from his germination series of ceramic sculptures. The treatment of the rising horns is unusual in this piece, ordinarily more direct and threatening, these appear to be shy. It's Alive! Metal staples hold together this Frankenstein vessel in elegant white with patches of glimmering gold and platinum by Masatomo Toi enclosed in an artist signed wooden box.
