EUR €3,500 A Japanese boxwood netsuke depicting Shojo crouched in a typical posture, with his hand resting on his knee, while sleeping from the effects of too much sake, the kimono is finely carved with geometric motifs as well as the long hair on the back.
Similar examples of the Nagoya carvers are illustrated in Meinertzhagen, MCI, p.844, Davey, MTH, p.189, no.570 and Lazarnick, NIA, p. .1063.
Edo period 19th century

all sold, post Vervendi auction One Finely formed and decorated Japanese blue and white porcelain dish. The deep, foliate rim fired to chocolate brown along the edge is suggestive of kakiemon influence. Decoration of figure seated in royal ease pose, perhaps Kannon, in rich foliate garden setting centered by repetitive characters (perhaps suggestive of sutra or chants) inside the deep rim.
