Chinese bronze figure, wearing a headdress and cast upright on a four legged pedestal. Traces of gold gilt essentiate his bearded continence, his gilt hands hold a "hu" in front of his chest, his hemmed robe is incised with cloud patterns. The richly patinated bronze displays remnants of pigment and file marks. The underside interior is hollow with a pitted surface, residual of the casting process.

A true part of Kyoto modern ceramic history, this robust vase reminiscent of Okinawan Kaki-otoshi ware was created at the Kyoto 2nd Industrial School circa 1925. It comes in the original wooden box titled Black Glazed Vase with Flower Motif, and signed inside Kyoto Shiritsu Dai Ni Kogyo Gakko followed by a large red seal. It is 27 cm tall, 23 cm diameter and in excellent condition. The roots of the mingei movement, ravaging the Japanese ceramic world at the time, are clearly evident.

A captivating piece described on the box as “aka e sakana bun” which can be loosely translated as, Depiction of Fish with Red Overglaze. We offer today a wonderful Chinese Longquan Celadon Porcelain Guanyin (Kwan Yin) dating from the Ming Dynasty. This Guan Yin has been acquired from the world famous collector of Chinese ceramics, Dr. Nearing and his Dragon's Lair Collection some years ago.
