$1,495 DESCRIPTION: Dramatic in its bold yet simple design, this Japanese lacquer box makes a striking statement. The background of this large box is lacquered in a mirror-like, black ro-iro ground, with a vivid gold lacquer design on the lid of bamboo superimposed over a ginko leaf, all within a gold circle. The box is supported on four curved feet, and the interiors are brilliantly lacquered in orange-red. This box is in excellent condition, with very minor “bumps” to the outer lid, and the r...

Given the importance of embroidery in her life, a silver needle case was often presented to a girl as part of her dowry.
This particular case is an extraordinary example. Most silver needle cases held only one container for needles, while this elaborate case has a total of five large silv...

SOLD This very well cast bronze dates most likely to the early to mid-18th century, although I have conservatively dated it slightly later for the listing. The piece depicts a seated lama and measures 4" (10cm) in height. The base is sealed with a double-dorje plate; there appears to be consecration inside. In excellent condition free of any repair. Pieces such as this have fairly well vanished from the market, as those of you who collect in this area are undoubtedly aware. Here is a chance to acquir...

$1,495.00 This is a genuine, archaic Chinese nephrite axe or Gui scepter. The surface has the expected smooth, "waxy" feel to it. The end is sharpened (which leads me to think it was made as a prestige axe as opposed to a scepter, although the literature seems to view pieces such as this one as either/both an axe and a Gui scepter; e.g. Rawson in Chinese Jade - I've included photos of the pieces listed there for reference). The piece is made from a pale celadon nephrite with darker inclusions and some are...
