A truly unusual Japanese cloisonne tea caddy, circa Meiji period late 19th century. The colors are vivid and intense against a background of swirling wind motifs, captured artistically in each individual cloisonne cell, then off set against various pictured panels of flora and vine. A seal from what is now Burma/India with carvings of an elephant and a flower. The handle is smooth and well-worn. The ivory has taken on a rich brown color with age.

Period: Pyu Dynasty - 100AD to 500AD)

A stoneware jar was preserved in an original condition.
Being applied with olive-green glaze on the the body, the jar or Hu was molded with a trumpet-like mouth and stand on a flat bottom.
Two well- mold loops were nicely pressed to the body as handles.
Decorations of incised wave bands were around the mouth while grooved patterns were carved around the body in the middle segment.
