Japanese hanging tobacco pipe set consisting of a wooden pipe holder and a wood tobacco box in the form of the 2 mythical fishermen Ashinaga (Long Legs) and Tenaga (Long Arms). Tenaga's face lifts and functions as a cover for the tobacco box which still has much of the original tobacco inside. This is a well done and rather large Japanese Cloisonne Jar. It is done in the Kyoto style and decorated with three phoenix birds. The piece is stoutly made with thick rims and is quite heavy. The artist we are not sure but the mottled enamel used may point towards Honda. The piece is in excellent condition with just a tiny loss of enamel on the underside of the lid where the knob is attached. It stands 8 1/2 inches.

A beautiful late 19th century bronze kankavati featuring a wonderful warm patina. The box is divided into 6 yoni shaped compartments for sindoor or kukum powder. The peacock finial lifts out and then one or more of the compartments can be opened. In excellent condition, it measures 4 inches in diameter when closed.
