Antique Tibetan bronze figure of the Buddhist deity Kubera, lord of wealth, protector of the physical world. He lounges with piles of gold around him. In one hand he holds a mongoose, the enemy of the Naga (malevolent snake people and guardians to vast treasure), and a sweet morsel in his other. The rush of white and and soft blue across the surface is reminiscent of the “Ma”, or blank space of an ink waterfall painting. A small, charming Korean single section cabinet. Three drawers with persimmon panels line the top of the cabinet, with a set of double doors below, on decorative iron hinges incised with sand dollars, and a central filigree edged lock. Within are two small drawers and a large open compartment. The very bottom of the piece has a front drop down lid with roomy open storage inside. The edges of the piece feature iron braces with floral motif studs.

A very good sized sculpture of Pedanda, a Brahman priest of the highest caste. This is a traditional sculpture, not a piece for tourists. It's made of hard wood, very intricately carved and has a subtle polychrome. H. 51 cm. Condition: expected age wear and a few age cracks. Please refer to the detailed pictures. A similar figure is in the collection of the 'Tropenmuseum' in Amsterdam. Provenance: Belgian private collection.
