We offer a really rare kiseto ( yellow seto ware ) chawan from the Momoyama Period with tanpan marks ( copper green marks ).

It is a high fired ware from the end of the 16th. century in the Aburage-Hada style.

The early Kiseto glazes ( yellow Seto ) from the Muromachi period are considered to be attempts to emulate Chinese celadons from the Song dynasty...

Hinagata (sample book of hanten (short jacket) design which is wood-block print. Hinagata is a sample design book and it was for customers when they make orders. The designs are stencil-dyed in the back of hantens which were worn by workers such as shop clerks, fish market workers, firemen and so on. This book is a remake of the original book as the ground paper had many damages so that the original design hantens were cut out and pasted on Japanese paper and newly bound...

A 13th.century ko seto Kamakura vase in elegantly-shaped meiping form, with a gradual outward curve on the shoulder, with short-knopped neck, incised beneath the greenish-yellow / olive glaze.

The box was added by our gallery 20 years ago. It was made by a tomobako artist, and there is written 'ko seto kamakura vase' if my memory does not fool me. The vase is decorated with kanji letters.

Marked on the bottom ( maybe a kiln mark ).

The circular dish made of fine milky white porcelain decorated in overglaze enamels as iron-red, blue, green, yellow, black and gold. The well painted with a prunus tree, coiled dragon and ho-o bird. The reverse with scrolls. Condition: fine, the green enamel with partial spalling. Dimension: diameter: 20.9 cm.

This is Tsutsugaki firefighter coat of Edo era (1800-1860). This is cotton Hanten spun by hand of thick indigo dyeing. It is a design very impressive beautifully. Like F1 ~ F5, this has the part that some indigo blue changed. Both cuffs have damage such as F6. 108cm x 123cm (42.5 "x 48.4")

A four drawer lacquered gyosho tansu. The tansu has metal work advertising the medicine the peddling merchant was selling. The medicine, soge-nuki kusuri (written on the box) aids in removing splinters. The medicine was made by Shiota Nadaya Juzaemon who was based near Takabashi, Shinbashi in Osaka city. A Japanese green lacquered art deco flower stand. The middle area contains wooden pieces inlaid within the lacquer to create an interesting geometric pattern. Japanese art deco became popular during the early periods of the Showa and the post-war era of Japanese art. Age: Showa Period Size: Length 16" Width 11.25" Height 1"

A cute dog Fushimi doll. The dog has an interesting collar possibly in the form of a fabric collar, often seen with domesticated animals portrayed in Japanese paintings. Fushimi dolls were created as dolls made for pilgrims visiting the Fushimi Inari Shrine. Age: Meiji-Taisho Period Size: length 9.25" Width 3" Height 9"

Beautiful Japanese silk kimono decorated with lovely understated design of flowers in a paste resist technique, painted details in gold, some use of gold thread, peach colored silk, Showa Period. Size: 61" long x 51" wide (cuff to cuff)

This is a very special Japanese cloisonne bowl. It was made by Ogasawara Shuzo. Shuzo's ability to capture a life-like quality make his pieces with fish some of the finest ever created in the Meiji Era. The bowls is in excellent condition. It measures 7 inches across and is 3 1/2 inches tall.

Large storage jug of typical Shigaraki stoneware with small white inclusions, made in three sections, decorated in multicolor enamel and gold with a cat making a mouse train come to an abrupt halt. A cat, high back, hissing at the mouse going at the head of a train, makes the train come to a dead stop and the following mice tumble, roll, spill in a ripple effect. Funny details: tumbling palanquin, spilling fish, flying papers. Either folk art or export. Japan, 20th century.

Lacquer covers the natural curves of this wood tray for use in the service of Sencha leaf Green Tea. It is 10 x 14-1/2 x 1 inches (25.5 x 37 x 2.5 cm). The bottom shows wear typical of use.
The importance of Sencha in the late Edo and Meiji periods cannot be overlooked, and has been studied in depth in the book Tea of the Sages, the Art of Sencha by Patricia Jane Graham.

This is a rain jacket of the high-quality indigo dyeing cloth with splashed pattern cotton of the Edo era. The lining is indigo dyeing striped cotton cloth. The cloth with splashed pattern pattern is a referee's fan and a hat. The Western hat was a stylish item of the gentlemen at that time. There are a few stains to the hem. There is no damage. The cotton is spun by hand. Size: 92cm x 368cm (36.2 "x 144.8cm")

This is a very fine and unusual Japanese Satsuma vase with relief figures. The work on this piece is highly detailed and the gold thickly applied. The Dragon and clouds are decorated with silver. The piece is in very good condition will minor wear. The Artist signature is the most worn area on the piece. With magnification it can be seen that it is signed Fuzan but it is very hard to make out. I have included a similar Fuzan mark for comparison. The vase stands 8 1/2 inches tall.

An antique Japanese imari ware covered basin. The basin is decorated with traditional auspicious Japanese motifs such as pine, bamboo, plum, and cranes. Along with the auspicious motifs are designs often seen with imari wares such as scrolling vines and chrysanthemum-like patterns. Often, these patterns are known as kinrande, where the motifs are emulating gold brocades. Age: Meiji Period Size: Diameter 11.5" Height 7"

A round vase decorated with various flowers, emulating the Chinese style of porcelain known as mille fleur. The work was produced by the contemporary kutani artist, Nakata Kingyoku. The Nakata family is known for the raised painted technique. Includes its own tomobako, signed by the artist. Age: Showa Period Size: Diameter 9" Height 8.5"

Spectacular Meiji Period maru obi c.1900. Woven on both sides with a jacquard loom, the blue/green dyes make this a superb example of a Kyoto style obi. The motifs are fans with pine, plum, bamboo, chrysanthemum and cranes; all auspicious symbols of happiness and good fortune. Excellent condition. Can be made into table runners or hangings.
