A large Kokuto scalloping sculpture on three adjoined pedestal feet by Yamaguchi Mio titled Taiji no Yume (Fetal Dream)dating from late 2023. Here the young artist has ventured into black clay, eschewing altogether glaze of any kind. What you have is simply the direct, dark clay and the earthen texture, with no frills or decoration. A peaceful cluster of homes blanketed in snow by Shirakura Niho enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kamo Sekkei (Kamo in Snow). This is likely an image from very close to the artists heart, he lived west of the Kamo River in Kyoto, and one can imagine this being one of the bridges spanning that river he has seen out on a winter day. Ink,Gofun & Light color on Silk bordered in light colored cloth...

This scroll is an excellent example of the early Showa era style of Shirakura Niho centering around 1930 enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Teishu Sotai. The painting features two persons in a boat contemplating a precipitous waterfall which extends up through the clouds. The phrase Teishu Sotai in old Japanese translates to "meeting of moored boats" in English...

A work so compositionally striking we chose it for the cover of the exhibition catalog by Shirakura Niho titled Baika Shoin Zu (The Plum Blossom Retreat). Pigment on silk in a silk border enclosed in the original signed wooden box. It is 55.5 x 127.5㎝ (21-3/4 x 50 inches) and is in excellent condition.

A dramatic ceramic sculpture (with a dramatic name) by Yamaguchi Mio currently starring in our garden display area titled Rinshi no Mori (Dead Forest) dating from before her time at the Ishoken Ceramic Facility in 2017. Unlike many of her more tightly bound growths, this one seems to be flaking off, like bark on a tree. It is 29 cm diameter, 66 cm tall and is in excellent condition, directly from the artist. It comes with a signed wooden placard...

Antique Japanese bronze censer in the form of a monkey. Elongated right arm is holding a ring attached to a chain and another ring for hanging. The monkey's left arm hangs by his side and it's tail wraps around. There is a round door in the back for inserting incense. The smoke would come out an opening in the monkey's mouth. Charming expression. Deep patina.

A rare antique Japanese Sakata Funa Tansu (Captain's chest for uniform storage) made of Keyaki (Zelkova) and Kiri (Paulownia) woods. All original Urushi lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware including the Hirute exterior handles and the Warabite interior handles. Lift-off security door opens to two drawers where the captain's uniform would have been stored. Fully framed in iron.

A second brilliant Modernist Vase by Yamamuro Hyakusei enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Akatsuki (dawn). It is 24.5 cm (just les than 10 inches) diameter, 20cm (8 inches) tall and in excellent condition.
Yamamuro Hyakusei (1900-1990) was a bronze casting artist from the Showa to early Heisei eras. After graduating from Toyama Prefectural Takaoka Crafts School in 1919, he entered Hattori Watch Shop, working his way up to head of the arts and crafts department...
