Sold Real old Kihara-Karatsu Chawan from the well known Kiwara kiln in Sasebo. This type of tea bowl is called hanjiki, a transitional folk half porcelain bowl between Karatsu and Shoki-Imari ware. Very nice cobalt decoration with mysterious charakters, crackle glaze and an antique gold restoration called kintsugi (gintsugi). The Kihara-Karatsu Chawan comes with a high quality shifuku. sold, thank you An early Edo period Ki-Seto sake cup repurposed with a silver lid pierced with a chrysanthemum to function as an incense burner enclosed in a custom made silk pouch and bamboo case dating the transformation to New Years of Kae-7 (1854). Without the lid it is 5.5 cm (roughly 2 inches) diameter and in excellent condition.

Incredible veining in the gold. Like much of Japanese art, the viewer is asked to interpret the scene as they see fit. Perhaps the remnants of a night of poetry and music under the plum blossoms. Perhaps the lonely Michizane playing to the moon, alone in exile with thoughts longing for Kyoto...

The inscription reads Mikawa Province (modern day eastern Aichi Prefecture), Tomifuku-gun ('county'), Oshiro Mountain. While the wealthy would often give a horse as a gift to a Shinto shrine, the common person would give a Hono Ema (literally 'gift horse picture'). These plaques are then left hanging up at the shrine for the gods to see...
