19th Century Edo Period Japanese Clay Mask of Tengu, the mischievous God of the Forest. A wonderful example of Mingei used as decorative art, with an underglaze of red and white fired to give a wonderful presence. 8.25 inches (21cm) tall) x 6.25 inches (16cm) wide. From a widely renowned and published collection that has been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum and Japan Society.

Antique Japanese pair of lively koma inu (temple fudog guardians), carved of keyaki (elm) wood, left hand creature has mouth open showing teeth and has a curly mane, right hand creature with toothy grin and wavey mane, wonderful detail carving, fain remnants of pigment (mouth, eyes, and whiskers), Meiji Period. Size of each: 17 1/2" high x 18" deep.

An unusual woven basket of bamboo strips and roots in the shape of a cocoon or bird nest dating from the 20th century. It can be used flat on a table or even better suspended on the wall or pillar. It is 43 cm (17 inches) long and in excellent original condition.

Wonderful hand-shaped Shino Chawan by great To-en Miyamura, made around 1935, enclosed in its origninally signed and sealed wooden box. Smooth and very aesthetic Shino glaze and a true wabi-sabi aura.

No chips or cracks. Impressive feeling holding this big tea bowl in your hands.

Mid Edo Period (1603 - 1868)

We like to present you a 150 year old tea bowl made of Shino ware. It was made around the late Edo/early Meiji period.

White pottery is coated with white and light grey glaze. Very tasteful. It comes with a Japanese wood box (kiribako).

As you can check on the pictures, it is in good antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.

Woodblock "Calme.'truck' " by Paul Jacoulet 1941, showing two Polynesian lovers in a scenic outdoors setting. Signed in pencil "Paul Jacoulet" with a red butterfly seal with title and date. Jacoulet was born in France in 1902 but lived his entire life in Japan studying and mastering woodblock technique producing 166 masterpieces.

A truly extraordinary print of the streets of Tokyo by Japanese Shin-Hanga artist Tsuchiya Koitsu circa August of 1939. Two women, both wearing beautiful blue kimonos, walk in the rain holding parasols. The streets are colored a purple/mauve as the rainwater reflects the light of lanterns from inside of a nearby shop, trees rise above buildings, and despite the depicted weather conditions, this is a very colorful scene. Print is signed and stamped in the bottom left corner...

Colorful woodblock print of a rural house in Japan, with multicolored pinwheels spinning overhead, accompanied by fish wind socks called koinobori, which are traditionally flown to celebrate Kodomo no Hi or Children's Day (March 5th). By Kun Pu, circa 1960-1950, published by Uchida Art Co. Size: 17.5" tall, 11.75" wide

Japanese woodblock print by Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997) entitled Jizo-in Kinugasayama and dated 1968. A beautiful scene of the gate to Jizo-in Temple in Kyoto as seen through the stand of tall bamboo that grows on either side. No. 14 of 100. Size in frame: 25 1/4" high x 19 1/4" wide. Size of print: 20 1/2" high x 15" wide.

A large presentation tray in finely carved polished wood in the shape of a rounded stump cutout. The sides mimic the knotty grain of a tree trunk. This type of tray was used to present bonsai.

The cabinet is solidly constructed with planks of resinous wood probably Hinoki (a variety of cypress), it is reinforced with artistically forged and cut fittings in the purest Japanese spirit, it has 3 locks which is exceptional, the main side with key, that of the upper part of the door also with key and secret sliding system and that of the lower part simply with secret system. This type of chest was used, it is said, by ship captains...

WOODEN CANDY MOLD AND HOW-TO BOOK ON SWEETS

Set of wooden mold for making rakugan (hard candy) from Showa period, mid 20th century, and illustrated book for how to make various types of sweets from Taisho 2 as 1913. The mold had been actually used at that time. The book is written well-detailed contents including the guide for use of materials or retail price, etc...

This is a Buddhist statue of Japanese coloured wood carving. It was made about 200 years ago and it is a real authentic original. It is never imitation. Such very old buddhist statues are very rare and valuable...

The falcon is represented resting on a branch. His expression is attentive and we can guess that he is hunting. The artist knew how to infuse him with all the ruthless savagery in his gaze. It is signed by Haru Mitsu. It is finely carved in wood, probably cherry,the pupils inlaid in black horn.I remember having read that this artist liked to exaggerate certain parts of the body of his subjects, here it is clear that the claws, eyes and beak are strongly exaggerated...
