A truly unusual Japanese cloisonne tea caddy, circa Meiji period late 19th century. The colors are vivid and intense against a background of swirling wind motifs, captured artistically in each individual cloisonne cell, then off set against various pictured panels of flora and vine. A real visual treat for the serious collector of quality cloisonne. Japanese sosaku hanga woodblock print featuring an embossed image of a female Awaji doll puppet in profile by Kiyoshi Saito (1907-1997). The artist's black ink signature is at the lower left and Saito's red seal is at the lower right portion of the image. Circa 1960's. Unlimited edition. Paper size about 17 1/8" x 11 1/2" (image: 14 1/8" x 8 3/8"). Full margins and very good overall condition. There is some slight waviness of the paper and a few puckers evident in the upper margin...

Japanese Yokohama woodblock print triptych illustrating the interior of an American steamship by Utagawa Yoshikazu (flourished 1850-1870) published by Maruya Jinpachi in 1861. In this design, the artist utilizes the traditional Japanese convention of “roofless architecture” which allows the contents of the ship to be visible. Inside, westerners are seated at a long table having a dinner party. The assembled size is 14 5/8"V x 29 1/4"H (each panel is about 14 5/8"V x 10"H)...

An elegant Japanese kiseru with a wooden double gourd ojimie. We believe the pipe case and tobacco box to be made from Sakura, cherry blossom wood, (Prunus serrulata). In excellent condition, the pipe case measures 9.5" long, pipe: 7.5" long, and the tobacco box is just under 3" in diameter.

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled "Morning Rain at Lake Hakone" by Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) dated in the right margin "11th month of Showa 13" (1938). The black ink signature and red seal of the artist are at the lower right corner of the image. The title and date are printed in the lower right margin. The seals of the publisher Doi Hangaten, printer Yokoi, and carver Harada are in the left margin...

First edition Japanese shin hanga woodblock print by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1991) titled "Summer Night" (Natsu no yo) depicting a large fireworks display above a rural village at night. The left margin contains the kanji date of " Showa 33" (1958), the seal of the publisher Unsodo, and the seals of the carver Okura, and printer Shinmi. The artist's red seal is at the lower right corner of the image. The Unsodo (“Un”) watermark is faintly visible at the lower left margin corner...

This is a first class Kashiki of old Shino ware. It is 200 years old ( Edo Period ), beautiful distorted and has a tasteful painting.

Kashiki is the general term for bowls or plates to present biscuits and sweets for the tea ceremony.

It is an indispensable item for the authentic tea ceremony.

There is potter's mark. The name of the artist is Sozan. Nice antique condition with aesthetic inborn kiln cracks and with no repairs...

Antique Japanese Boxwood Persimmon and Chestnut Netsuke, these edible objects arranged together are the charming symbols of the fall season. This bibelot has a softly rubbed and smoothed surface and it's himatoshi has unequally sized holes. Size 1.25"High x 1.25" Wide, Edo Period, circa pre 1850s.

Japanese hand hammered Copper Water Container or Mizusashi for tea ceremony, 6 3/4" high with dark brown lacquered on wood top, 6 1/4" diameter, shape of ancient urn. The condition is good, except little lacquer losses on the side edge of the cover.

Japanese iron tea kettle/brazier in a gourd shape. The bottom brazier has two openings, one in front and one in back, and has two large, round handles on its sides, held in the mouths of beasts or dragons. The upper portion is for boiling tea and has two slim handles on either of its sides. The hardwood lid has a very cute leaf and flower bud decoration. Comes with two iron coal pokers. Chinese Shiwan (Shekwan) pottery model of a Daoist Immortal, holding a fan and seated on a large gourd. The figure resembles Li Tieguai, who ordinarily is depicted with his staff and often carrying a gourd which was believed to contain medicine powerful enough to revive the dead. The figure holds a fan, the main attribute of the immortal Zhongli Quan (Han Zhongli). The fan is believed to have the power to revive the dead. Perhaps the figure is an amalgam of the two immortals...
