This is a very attractive Japanese cloisonne vase by a rare artist. The vase is not signed but the work is very unique. A signed Goto vase with very similar work can be seen on page 79 of the book Japanese Cloisonne by Coben and Ferster. We used to own that vase and the mate that went to it. The cloisonne is done in a technique aka-sukashi, ginbari, where the metal base contains a pattern which is showing through the red cloisonne glaze. Japanese cloisonne small vase with blooming roses. There is a fully bloomed red rose and a small budding red rose. Along the base, there is a blooming white rose with pink edged petals. The body of the vase is a cool white. Taisho period, early 20th century. It measures 1.75" base diameter, 4" widest, 5" tall. Good condition.
