From our Japanese Collection, a good Meiji Period (1868-1912) imari lobed dish, executed in traditional palette using iron red, orange, blue, green, and gilt on a white porcelain body, depicting a stylized chrysanthemum head motif in the center well, along with dragon, phoenix, and floral motifs in the border reserves. An unpretentious but well-made traditional example.

A good sized Imari porcelain bowl. Blue underglaze cobalt and Red, green, aubergine and gold overglaze enamel decoration. Good decorative impact. A "crows foot" crack inside the foot is stable and barely at all visible inside the bowl. Minor enamel losses. Diameter, 10 1/8 in. Height 3 3/4 in.

A spectacular and intricately detailed painted Japanese Satsuma Koro. The painted features display Buddhist monks surrounded by an encircling phoenix on either side, beautifully gilted and accented with flowers and four legs that sport foo dog faces. A large gold gilted foo dog adorns the lid and is one of the most unusual renditions that i have ever encountered, I have not seen another like it...

Superb Kenzan ware decorated with designs of overlapping fans depicting an early winter scene with a house gate by pine trees covered with a rice straw mat as well as Japanese old poems on the interior and with stylized Japanese pampas grass design on the four sides. This is a fine early Japanese Satsuma vase. It was made before 1900 and is one of the better examples I have seen from this artist.. The enamel work and relief dragon are done very well. The vase is interesting and has a lot of character. It is very heavy and in very good condition. The only real flaw is a broken horn on the dragon which is a common occurrence with these pieces. This can be fixed fairly easily and I could arrange for this small repair for the buyer. Stands 9 1/2 inches tall.

This is a very old Japanese Imari Plate. The design is outstanding and the rim style is very rare. This is a piece for the collector that appreciates the finer imari pieces made at the Japanese kilns. The plate measures 9 3/4 inches across and is quite heavy. There is a signature or writing in underglaze blue that we can not make out. Condition is excellent with come minor wear.

Two small Japanese porcelain dishes used for small side servings or morsels - both decorated with blue underglaze and polychrome overglaze enamels. One with asymmetric floral decoration and gilt foliate rim and spurious Chenghua mark inside the foot. The other octagonal with dragon decoration in the cavetto surrounded by flowering karakusa enclosed within alternating red and blue panels and the verso with geometric patterns...

A splendid Japanese Hirado reticulated censer. The censer has a reticulated lid and body with shishi lions on the side and chrysanthemum foliate decoration on the neck with a square base. A beautiful antique Imari covered dish painted with purple, green and yellow spotted Chinese lions surrounded with peonies. The bottom section of the dish contains scrolling vine and geometric patterns. Age: 19th century. Size: Diameter: 9.75" Height: 5.8".

A pair of Japanese dishes or plates, Edo, probably 18th century. Over-glaze decoration in iron red, aubergine, black, green and gilt of scholars in a landscape of rocks and banana trees. In the centre Kirin, the mythical animal, in under-glaze blue. The back with auspicious symbols. Diameter "8½/ 21,5 cm (both plates). Condition: both dishes with some wear to the decoration, one with a chip to underside of rim (cf. pictures).

This is Japanese shallow bowl from the great porcelain factory, Fukagawa. It is beautifully decorated throughout with an intense boarder of hand painting and gold work on the scalloped edge. It is in excellent condition. The bowl measures 9 3/4 across and is 2 inches deep.
