A Ming Blue and White porcelain Kaiseki dish made for the Japanese Market, Late Ming, Transitional Period, Chongzhen 1628-1644. Decorated with the Three Friends of Winter, Pine, Bamboo and Prunus. The gnarled pine tree in the center is twisted to form a Chinese `Shou` character meaning Luck and Blessings. The border is of informal scrolling plants including Lingzhi fungus.

The twelve sided dish with brown-dressed rim is decorated in enamels that appear to be an attempt to reproduce doucai wares. The decoration features a bee, a monkey, a bird and a deer in a landscape.This forms a rebus on the auspicious line ‘feng hou jue li’, “enfeoffment and emolument”...

Chinese Ming Dynasty Glazed Horse & Rider

This impressive and detailed pottery model of a horse and rider was made during the Ming Dynasty (AD 1368 - 1644). It has been coated in green, amber and black glazes. The rider's head has been made separately and has been "cold-painted" in black and white pigments: the head fits into a slot in the neck of the rider. Note the detail to the rider's clothing, the various fittings and especially the horse's mane...

Diameter approximately 20.3 cm. Fritting at the rim. In good condition.

The natural cobalt had become to be imported to China again at Jiajing period, and so color development of blue had become very clear...

Excessively rare pair of cizhou jars representing rabbits. The elegance of the animals is surprising, the drawing is precise and fast, the artist has drawn his line without hesitation. Rabbits are alive. It is exceptional to find such models in pairs. Normal wear of some hundred years of use but no cracks, chips or gaps. No restoration or hidden defects...
