Spoils of Time
$2,600 A pair of boldly carved pale blue peking glass vases. Birds in flowering branches. Good condition. Height, eight inches. Early 20th century, Republican era.

$295.00 DESCRIPTION: A red and gilt ink cake in the form of a turtle with a curled snake on its back. In ancient China, the tortoise and the snake were thought to be spiritual creatures symbolizing longevity. Both the front and back have been finely pressed in raised relief with gilt accents. One of the treasures of the Chinese scholar’s studio, this ink cake is in excellent condition, in its original box, and dates from the first quarter of the 20th C. or earlier. DIMENSIONS: 3” long (7.7 cm).
Diameter approximately 25 cm. In good condition.
A bamboo carving depicting a peasant or fisherman smoking a long pipe. Dating to the late Qing or early Republic Period. Condition: three small losses (photo no. 8 and no. 9). Dimension: total height: c. 21 cm.
A large thumb ring decorated in openwork with Chinese auspicious characters, originally worked in two parts. The inner ring with Chinese maker's mark. Condition: please look at the photos carefully. Dimension: diamater: c. 3.3 cm, 2.8 cm high, weight: 32 g.

$125.00 Chinese Blue and White covered rectangle shape Scholar's Box, Ca. 1880-1920, 2" high maximum, 4 3/8" x 3 1/8" wide, underglaze blue design of the flowers in the basket in the diamond shape cartouche enclosed with geometric blue design of triangle shape borders on four(4) corners, supported by four(4) short feet, bottom is unglazed. There are etched Chinese Characters written inside the bottom of the box and also under the cover. The dome top cover is wrapped a little, doesn't fit tightly...
Chinese Blue and White Porcelain rectangle shape scholar's Covered Box, Ca. 1880-1920, 1 3/8" high, 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" wide, underglaze Bird's face with scrolling vines in the center within geometric design border. Lot of Chinese Character writings are inside the box, on the bottom and also under the top, bottom is glazed. The condition is good.

On Hold A very high quality white nephrite pendant carved as a figurine of He-he Erxian (和合二仙). According to Wikipedia: He-He Er Xian, translated as the Immortals of Harmony and Union and as the Two gods of Harmony and Union, are two Taoist immortals. They are popularly associated with happy marriages. He and He are typically depicted as boys holding a lotus flower (荷, hé) and a box (盒, hé). The pendant is in excellent condition and carved with superior craftsmanship...
A small Chinese gilded silver dish standing on four splayed feet, with pierced design of dragons, bamboo chrysanthemum and prunus among rocaille. Base with maker's mark in Chinese characters. Condition: one foot with a tiny loss (see photo no. 11), maybe later gilding. Dimension: diameter: 13.7 cm, 4.1 cm high, weight: 122 g.

The ferrule and tip are both crafted from turned wood while natural bristles form the full brush. In excellent condition, this is a handsome, well made brush dating from the early 20th C.
