The stone has a lustrous patina and has a very dramatic ‘splash’ of red on both sides. It has never been carved with a designation and the base has now a shallow flake as a result of an impact on the edge, with a little powdery material showing. Further along there is a tiny bruise to the edge. These could be taken out by reducing the length by 0.4cm. Personally the chip does not worry me...

A pair of small bronze foo dogs or foo lions created by the lost-wax casting process, showing traces from the mold. A fine and unusual brush rest in the shape of a dragon-fish or some similar mythological animal. Carved of what appears to be boxwood with a dark-reddish lacquer coating. On the bottom side an illegible signature in raised relief consisting of two Chinese characters. Qing, probably second half of 18th cent. L 15 cm. Condition: Fine all-over, but with wear due to age & handling.

A fine quality water pot for use on the scholars desk. The porcelain is very white and translucent. The fine blue art work shows two five toed dragons chasing the flaming pearl. There is a six character Guangxu Dynasty mark on the base, but it is not the mark used by the Royal Kiln. As the pot is not Imperial Ware we believe it was made during the Republic Period in Guangxu Style...

A wood brush pot was in nice form.
It was well preserved despite the bottom cover was lost and was replaced by an old plank of wood.
The surface was in kind of dry-feel and in pale tint. But I believe it can be transformed easily by rubbing with wood wax and changed to a beautifulcolor.

Date: late Qing to early republic periods, 19th/20th C.

Small Guangxu ink well, circa 1880's, dense, heavy and beautiful. It could also have been used as a small brush washer and doubled as a document or paper weight when not in use. In good condition it has a few nicks around the outer edge expected with a well used piece. Measures 3.25 wide x 1.25 high.
