Chinese Ming Dynasty Glazed Pottery Chair (16th Century)

This rare and very nice pottery model of a folding armchair with a horseshoe back was made in the second half of the 16th century (c. 1550 - 1600). It is made from a relatively highly-fired red pottery that has been partially glazed in green and amber glazes. Two characters with bird beaks serving as incense holders. They are in sandstone covered with lead glassures of three colors (sancai), yellow, green and manganese, these models also have a part enamelled in white. Models with animal masks are much rarer than those with human faces and probably represent the animals of the zodiac. Good condition, almost not worn, a broken and glued head visible on photos. The glassure is finely cracked. Height: 325mm. Chinese work probably 17°, but maybe before.

A pair of massive museum quality matching pottery figures of two male house attendants, middle Ming Dynasty, 15th.-16th. century.

The figures are matching in the Green and Yellow Sancai colors and they are plced on large plints. The figure to the left in this pair was Termo-Luminescence testet by Ralf Kotallas Laboratory and it was made during the Middle Ming period (15th.-16th. cent.).
