Sold in Vervendi March 2015 Auction A good Korean mother of pearl inlaid small chest of drawers. The front with inlaid decoration of pairs of birds (including, recognizably, ducks and phoenix) among lotus, bamboo, peaches and peonies on flat black lacquered ground. This is one of those wonderful finds of both honest age and undisturbed condition. All the wood with evidence only of being hand worked and appearing untouched since made with good, honest patina on all the secondary woods as well...
Korean Monochrome Glazed Porcelain Bottle / Vase - Late Joseon Dynasty
This nicely-shaped bottle was made during the latter part of the Joseon (Choson) Dynasty (1392 - 1910), probably the 18th or 19th century. It is "heavily-potted" and coated both inside and out in a thick pale glaze. Around the foot ring there is a considerable amount of kiln grit embedded within the glaze, a feature often seen on ware of this type from this period...

The cranes have been painted on mulberry paper using natural pigments mixed in a glue base. The painting is not signed, and thus was done by an unknown artist, probably at a fair, market, or home for a small fee. The painting with frame measures about 33" tall x 18 1/2" wide...

SOLD Vintage korean black lacquer tobacco box with inlaid mother of pearl. The lid of the box has a beautiful design of birds on a peony branch. The interior has a lid for to cover the tobacco or incense compartment with an inlaid design of an incense burner. There is a compartment for a lighter and a bronze ash tray. It measures 2.5" tall 12" wide 7.5" deep.

This small stoneware bowl was made during the Koryo Dynasty (AD 918 - 1392). It is glazed all over in a thick and finely-crackled translucent celadon glaze. The inner surface is decorated with a central flower blossom surrounded by rings and cloud patterns inlaid in white slip (this is not so easy to photograph due to the highly reflective glaze)... Korean Koryo Dynasty 13th/14th Century Glazed Stoneware Bottle / Jar
This attractively-shaped stoneware bottle was made during the 13th / 14th century. It has a wide round body, a short narrow neck and a cup-shaped mouth. The surface is coated in a finely-crackled olive-green glaze, the colour varying in places according to its thickness. In places where the glaze is particularly thin, it has degraded a little over time and flaked from the surface. Height 20 cm (8 inches)...

Buncheong refers to the technique of incising a repeating pattern on the clay surface and white clay is filled in creating a strong contrast of greys and celadon colors with the white lines.
