An original Japanese color woodblock print by the artist Utagawa Toyokuni I (1769-1825), in vertical oban size. Depicting two women with a boy drying and beating Cloth on the river banks. Signed "Toyokuni ga", censor "kiwame". Condition: good color and impression, some small wormholes, backed, creased and soiled, laid down at upper corners. Dimension: 36.1 cm x 24.6 cm.

Printed in 1884, this fine woodblock depicts Hideyoshi Toyotomi blowing a mouth organ as well as other famous warriors, before the attack on the fortress/castle of Tottori in 1581. Hard to find nowadays: fairly shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was covered with a potter's knife in its shoulder and around the foot ring.

The brim of this bowl covered with a green copper oxide glaze and the lower part was left unglazed and decorated in iron oxide with buddhist wheel of law on two opposite sides over which finally a transparent ash glaze was applied...
