Lake Shoji Date: 1934. Size: Oban. 15.75 x 10.5 inches. Publisher: Doi Hangaten. Carver: Harada. Printer: Yokoi. This seal combination indicates a 1950-62 edition. Koitsu catalog no. TK-DH-14. Condition: Small indentation mark above left cloud. Slight creasing and toning. Note: Another of the spectacular Fuji views for which Koitsu is known. Please also see our Koitsu766 and Koitsu767.

It is inset with small cabochons of coral, turquoise and lapis. The conch shell itself is considered auspicious. It represents the deep, melodious sound of the Buddha's voice which wakes up disciples "from the slumber of ignorance".

Price on Request Japanese antique eight lobed dish with gold and shell inlaid lacquer (shibayama). Each lobe is decorated in makie, the flora and fauna of the four seasons with archaic designs set in between. The central area of the dish is depicting a female figure holding a lotus with a child attendant holding a bouquet of lotuses. The bottom is crafted in nashiji lacquer with a gold lacquer signature set in a medallion motif reading: Kaneko Zo, or Produced by Kaneko.

The traditional Higaki-mon pattern carved into the shoulder seems to dance like stick figures riding a dragon. Rivulets of yellow-green ash flow down the sides, and one side is charred and encrusted with thick embers.
