The striated rings are mobile, and can be spun to change the appearance of the Koro. A nearly identical work is held in the collection of Yakushiji temple. Slightly distorted Ao-Oribe Chawan with a rounded brim, made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potter's knife in its lower part around the foot ring.

The foot ring is typical for Oribe bowls produced around 1610 at the Motoyashikiki and other kilns. The kamajirushi '<' kiln mark beside the foot ring underlines this once again. Such old and spectacular Oribe bowls are usually only viewable in museums.

This is a beautiful rare, wire and wireless vase from Ando. Gonda was probably the artist. It's a big vase standing 30 inches tall. Has beautiful enameling with delicate tonal changes that do not show up well in the images. The vase is in very good condition overall, but does have an excellent fill, an bit bigger than a thumbnail on the back side. See last image.
