There is a lot of drama and tension between the various facets of this ash encrusted Shigaraki outcrop by Furutani Kazuya enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Shigaraki Mentori Hanaire. (Faceted Vase). Every angle offers a unique view, texture, glazing, form, a vase which you can never grow tired of. I see it with an angular branch of plum blossoms, or perhaps Nandina loaded with red berries. It is 30 cm (12 inches) tall and in excellent condition, directly from the artist.

A very rare and interesting, Buddhist bronze ewer or water sprinkle, Johei (Sanskrit: kundika) for Buddhist rituals, in classical form with rounded, oblong body, a short sprout and a long neck. Lid for the opening. There are three circling bands, two on the body and one on the neck. The sprout set with a raised lotus pattern. A highly interesting and impressive scroll painting of a waterfall in minimalist rendering. Ink and faint colors on silk. Signed: Bunho, a Meiji period painter from Satsuma and a disciple of the Kyoto painter Takamura Bumpo (1791-1857). Old, storage. Printed documentation accompanies the painting. Meiji, dated: Yang Metal Rat year = 1900. 1900. H. 114 cm, W. 36 cm. Full length 176 cm. Condition: Very good, but with some wear due to age and handling.

Tall Tang Dynasty terra cotta standing soldier with fierce expression original pigments. There is some damage at the base, please see enlargements. Will still stand upright but I would recommend some extra support. H: 29cm/11.4in.

An impressive Edo period (1603–1868) samurai kabuto, forged in a bold, swept-back form with feather-like detailing across the crown. Each raised ridge is sculpted to evoke the layered plumes of a bird, giving the helmet both a dynamic sense of movement and a distinctive profile. The russet-brown lacquer finish preserves the natural texture of the iron beneath, while a small applied mon (family crest) at the front identifies the wearer’s clan affiliation.

From a collection formed in the 1990's, a rare and important matched pair of jade dragon plaques from the Warring States period, ca 475-221BCE. The plaques each measure approximately 5-1/4" in height (13.3cm) and, as can be seen in the photographs, show traces of the abrasive material used in their creation as well as the expected calcification. As can be seen in the photos, each plaque has a drilled perforation at the "shoulder" which would suggest that they were intended to be sewn to a garmen...

A well-preserved pottery figure of a pig from the Chinese Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD), modeled in a naturalistic stance with head lowered and short legs set firmly apart. The body is rounded and proportionate, with incised details around the snout, ears, and eyes that give the animal a lifelike presence. Traces of original pigment remain across the surface, with warm earthen tones and subtle orange-red highlights revealing its ancient polychromy.

A striking square-form Imari porcelain kōro from the late Edo period, masterfully executed in vibrant underglaze blue, iron red, gilt, and enamels. Rare pair of animals mat weights carved in soft white stone circa Han Dynasty or earlier. Quite unusual, I have never seen anything like these before. They have been repaired, see enlargements for scale. These have good water absorption as well as a string petrichor- what makes me think these are a stone is that they are actually softer than pottery of the period.
