Japanese antique choba tansu (merchant's chest) from the Gifu area. Made with all kuri (chestnut) wood front, hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood on the sides and top. The upper portion of the chest has a full width drawer over a compartment covered by two sliding panels with horizontal slats. The lower portion of the chest has a series of 4 drawers of various sizes on the left and a hinged safe box door on the right hand side. The safe box door opens to reveal 2 small interior drawers...

This scene was painted by Higuchi Tomimaro for show at the Seikosha Exhibition held in Osaka in 1938. Antique Japanese mizuya (kitchen tansu) in two sections. The frame is made of hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood with a very smooth grain. Sliding panels and drawer fronts are made of keyaki (elm) wood with dramatic grain. The top section has a large compartment that runs the width of the chest and is covered by 4 sliding panels with keyaki burl wood. Large late Meiji to Taisho period Japanese Arita porcelain cylindrical form hibachi decorated in underglaze blue, white, and celadon with mirrors and auspicious symbols. Scattered bisque incised signature seals accent the decoration. 12 1/4" high x 17" diameter. Early 20th century. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. From the collection of an elderly woman in Sun City West, Arizona.

An antique Japanese Mizuya (kitchen) Tansu single section made of keyaki wood. The top section has four sliding panels. The mid section has 5 medium sized drawers. The lower section has two large sliding panels. Adjacent to the panels is a small drawer and hinged door with a large compartment.

Very sweet little circular cloisonne box with a pale yellow ground. The foot is exposed copper. The interior of both the lid and base is a mottled dark green. Some expected pitting to the enamel. In excellent antique condition, no dents, no chips, no cracks, it measures 2.25 inches in diameter. Circa 1800

Reminiscent of an excavated Haniwa figure of a house, this museum quality vase is by Koinuma Michio and comes enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled very simply Tsubo. Silk kimono worn on the stage of Kyogen which is a traditional short comedic drama. It is often performed with Noh drama. The kimono is made of thin plain silk with katazome lattice pattern and brush dye for green parts. The lining is pongee silk. The dye is all vegetable and sumi. Kataginu and hakama (kamishimo) is worn over this kimono on the Kyogen stage. In excellent condition. 20th century. 142cm x 134cm

Japanese woodblock print by Katsuyuki Nishijima (b. 1945) depicting a shop front. This is an original, kanji titled, pencil-signed, limited edition print numbered 21/500 in the bottom margin. Late 20th century. Paper size 17" x 12 3/8" (image: 15 7/8" x just under 11 1/4"). Full margins. Excellent condition. There is one small piece of tape at the top back margin edge.

An antique four case Japanese Inro with lacquer and gold flecked images of pine trees with a bone netsuke of a monkey holding a persimmon and an agate ojime.

An antique Japanese lacquer Inro with images of persimmons on a gold flecked background. The Inro has five compartments, a boxwood netsuke carved in the shape of a persimmon and a metal ojime incised with floral and geometric designs. The inside compartments are covered with dense nashiji lacquer (fine gold flecks). Exceptional.
