Rare Japanese first edition Taisho period shin hanga woodblock print titled “Mt. Arashi in Spring” from "New Selection of Noted Places of Kyoto (First Series)" by Miki Suizan (1887-1957) published in 1924 by Sato Shotaro in an edition of 200. Carved by Maeda Kentaro and printed by Oiwa Tokuzo. The black ink signature and red seal of the artist are at the lower right. The red seal of the publisher is on the back. As best I can tell, this is the rare first edition of this print, dating to 1934. Present are both the Watanabe "sausage" seal as well as the red 6mm seal, visible in the lower left corner of the print. The subject is commonly listed as "Snow at Ukimido Temple," and is both rare and highly sought after...

Japanese late Edo period cylindrical form porcelain lidded wine pot on a raised foot decorated in underglaze blue with bands of leafy flowers set against a white porcelain ground. Fixed upright U-shaped handle. Mid-19th century. 8 3/4" high to the top of the handle x about 8” across to the tip of the spout. Very good overall condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Typical minor production irregularities.

Beautiful Meiji Period C.1890 maki-e raised gold lacquer Tachibana citrus tree with silver inlay cherry blossoms floating around the Tachibana tree. Some of the Tachibana citrus fruit also have silver inlay. Lacquer on rest of mirror case is Nashiji or speckled gold lacquer. The pad the mirror rests on is hand dyed sarasa with natural vegitable dyes from India. On the back of the miror is " Made by Takashima Sagaminokami Mitsutada". 12" tall by 8" wide. Antique Japanese long silk altar cloth embroidered with three phoenix birds, also called Hou-ou birds. The mythical birds represents fire, sun, justice, obedience, fidelity, and the southern constellations. The phoenix also symbolizes the imperial household, specifically the empress. The embroiderer expresses flowing movement in in the wings and feathers of the great birds.

This remarkable tea bowl is from the kilns of Yoshida Shuen (1940-1987)—an apprentice of Miwa Kyusetsu (1910-2012) who was awarded the status of Living National Treasure in 1983. It features a milky translucent glaze somewhat resembling coral, with a few small portions of the foot of the tea bowl exposed, displaying the reddish coarse clay that this piece is fashioned from.
