Sold 19th C wood netsuke depicting a masseur crouching to lift a strength stone, his muscular arms wrapped around the heavy rock as his knees attempt to pull the weight. The face contorted into a grimace, showing the strain, his dead bulging eye cleverly inlaid in bone as are his teeth, visible behind his distorted lips. Eyes and teeth are inlayed.
Perfect condition.
Signed on an inlaid red tablet GYOKKEI.

sold thank you This is a Tsutsugaki yuzen day Kimono that was used in the Kyoto area during the Edo period. The landscapes and people are depicted in an idyllic style with the fine lines of Tsutsugaki. The colors are hand-painted with Yuzen-some. The fabric is made of cotton for the warp and tsumugi silk for the weft, giving it a rustic feel. There are no damages or stains. The condition is very good. The flattened form is wrapped in dark gray with brilliant flowering vines accented with gold and platinum surrounding windows containing colorful birds perched on Autumn and winter branches. It is 24 x 11 x 23.5 cm (9-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 9-1/2 inches) and is in excellent condition.
