This is an original Edo period (1603-1867) patchwork silk kimono textile. The collar part is a beautiful cloth with hand embroidery and shibori dye from the Genroku period (1688-1704). This is a yosegire kimono made with a patchwork of natural safflower-dyed katazome, shibori, purple root dyeing, and indigo-dyed katazome silk. All are originals from the Edo period. The lining is natural safflower-dyed silk and will discolor over time.There are some stains and damage on the cuffs...

Two Kome-bukuro (rice bag) made of cotton fragments which are hand-spun and vegetable indigo dye. They are stripes, kasuri and fine katazome (stencil-resist dye). Both have writing with sumi, Echizenya, the shop's name and "Hane" which is located in Shimane prefecture facing to the Japan Sea. Kome-bukuro was used when people dedicated rice or grains to temples or shrines. Both are in excellent condition, bags and strings. 19th to early 20th century. The square cloth in the bottom is fine and beautiful katazome with "two cranes facing" motif. Kome-bukuro was used when people dedicated rice to temples or shrines. Hanten with sashiko and mending patches which is from Shonai region in Yamagata prefecture. It is made of many indigo dye cotton fragments as cotton was precious in regions with cold climate. It has beautiful vegetable indigo faded and worn-out parts. The first half of the 20th century. W:85cm, L:90cm
