Japanese antique bashōfu robe. Made all of woven banana fiber, this type of kimono was traditional to the area of Okinawa (Ryusou) Ryukyu Island during the early 1900s. The material has a pleasing structure and is woven with vertical and horizontal stripes in a dark brown color.

Japanese antique hikeshi banten, fireman's coat. Made of indigo dyed cotton and stitched over every inch using a sashiko quilting technique. Fires were common in Japanese urban areas due to the dense population as well as construction material (primarily wood and paper). Fire brigades were made up of samurai class (buke hikeshi) as well as common class (machi hikeshi) and their primary goal in containing a fire was to knock out the surrounding buildings so the fire had no more fuel...

An antique vertical Japanese wall hanging made of velvet, partially cut and painted with ink and colors. Beautiful depiction of two fighting cocks and chickens in a bamboo groove. Original brocade border and printed cotton lining. Signed and sealed in the lower right corner. Condition: right low corner with water stains, faded, the border is in patches brittle and raddled. This kimono was worn by a child of a wealthy merchant family in Kyoto during the Edo period. It was used for a shrine-related ceremony for a child around one year old. It was made with the highest quality Yuzen dyeing techniques. This can be seen from the fact that it is made of silk. A roll of cotton cloth for one kimono (tanmono) with shibori pattern. It is made in Arimatsu Narumi region in Nagoya city in Aichi prefecture, where shibori textiles have been made since early Edo period (early 17th century).
