A thought provoking Japanese satin silk haori (Jacket) with a hand painted scene of a young man paying homage to a Zen master. The older man is sitting on a mat in a relaxed lotus position. In the background is a 5-6 paneled screen featuring an outdoor water scene. The colors are excellent. With family crests on the the front side, this hoari is in near perfect condition, save for a slight water mark on the inside front sleeve (see Last photo, sleeve on right.)

Fabulous Japanese black satin silk haori with a woven lining featuring 3 large rabbits. The outside has 2 family crests on the front and 3 across the back. Please note that the grey spotted rabbit has red pupils. This is a high quality men's haori and is in excellent condition. The jacket measures 54 inches across the shoulders by 44” long. Dates circa 1900-1930.

Antique Japanese chirimen (crepe) silk kimono. The fabric is paste resist dyed with fu dogs leaping over a bridge and white chrysanthemum flowers. The interior lining bears a hand-embroidered 3 character signature .

The old Edo to the Meiji hem pattern silk yuzen dye kimono: It is a pattern of scenery of sparrows in the snow during bamboo digging and bamboo. It has very slight stain , but it is hardly noticeable...

Japanese Satsuma ware obidome (obi broach) made of ceramic and decorated with orange blossoming chrysanthemums. This three dimensional obidome is painted with gold details and has a slot in the back through which an obijime cord can be strung. With signed kiri wood tomobako.

Asa (hemp) baby's kimono with hand-painted pine tree motif whose wefts as well as warps are hand-plied. It has se-mamori in the back which is a charm with silk threads and this one is boy's kimono as they are in the left as well as in the center (girl's one is in the right). Evils are believed to come from back in old days and it protects a baby from diseases. The second half of the 19th century. In good condition but some stains in front and holes in two belts made of thin raw silk...

Miyako-jofu woman's kimono with fine kasuri which is hand-woven of choma (ramie) and dyed with Ryukyu-ai. Wefts and warps are hand plied. Miyako-jofu has been woven in Miyako Island in Okinawa since 14th century. It was called "Satsuma-jofu" in Edo period as the island belonged to Satsuma feudal domain. It was imposed as tax. It is time-consuming process of thread making, thread plying, weaving as matching wefts and warps kasuri pattern...

Sakiori sodenashi (vest) whose wefts are cotton strips recycled from old cloth. Warps are asa (hemp) and it has hand-stitched sashiko in the upper back. This is Egata used for the Taisho era period. As for this, a ramie spun by hand is used. This is drawn in Tsutsugaki. This is a natural indigo plant, and both sides are dyed.
