Wonderful and important chawan: rounded wan-shaped tea bowl with high foot of the bamboo node style in the typical O-Ido shape. The light, little coarse clay with enclosures is expertly thrown and full glazed - including the foot - with a transparent glaze of wood ash with some feldspar. The glaze shows attractive shrinking (kairagi) in the lower half of the bowl. It shows discoloration from green tea, a sign of many years of careful use...

Really important Ko-Karatsu (kogaratsu - oldest Karatsu ware made during the 16th century) Madara tea bowl with a yobitsugi repair of highest quality.

The bowl is a so called Madara Karatsu tea bowl (provenance is the legendary Hobashira-kiln) due to its typical cookie-like sandy clay and wonderful blue-purplish flecks.

But its true highlight is the perfect traditional yobitsugi restoration with a pure silver gintsugi (kintsugi)...

Modern Nezumi-Shino Chawan (made in 1995) by first class artist Shigemitsu Niwa, born in 1951. Niwa was accepted for 3 times at the Nitten exhibition, which is the most famous and importand art exhibition in Japan.

The production dates back to the early 18th century. Onta ware is closely associated with Mingei folk art. The earth for the pottery is found in Onta in the mountains. It normally comes in the form of rocks and needs to be ground to a pulver...

Very fine example of a Japanese Kiyomizu Tenmoku Chawan with aesthetic Namako (sea cucumber) glaze. It was made around 1900 and is in perfect antique condition. No chips, cracks or repairs.

We present another awesome Shino-Oribe Chawan from our collection: Greyish-whithe glaze amalgamates with a wild and roughly thrown body and a still vivid and strong glaze. It is very heavy for a tea bowl, almost 500g. Please note that there is also an interesting kiln mark.

The chawan dates from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and comes with a very good wood box.

Perfect Aka Raku Tsutsu Chawan made by the 10th generation Kichizaemon Tan-nyu and enclosed in an authentication wood box written and signed by the 12th generation master of Omotosenke, Seisei (1863-1937).

Tan-nyu (1795-1854) was firstly named as Sojiro. He was the second son of Ryōnyu, the second generation master. In 1811, at the retirement of his father-master Ryonyu, he succeeded as Kichiza’emon...

Perfect Aka Raku Chawan by Kichizaemon (twelfth Generation) Konyu (1857-1932). His childhood name was Kozaburo, later became Kicho (or, Yoshinaga). He was the eldest son of Keinyu, the eleventh generation master. In 1871, he succeeded the family business and became the generation master. In 1919 he retired and took the name as Konyu. He enjoyed his retirement in practicing tea ceremony and writing haiku. His Aka (red) Raku wares were famous for the dynamic use of spatula...

Special offer: Heavily distorted shoe shaped (kutsugata) tea bowl with a strongly flaring mouth made of light, coarse, unrefined Mino clay. The expertly thrown body was trimmed with a potters knife in its lower part and covered with a very deep black iron oxide glaze inside and outside.

A 'window' on the side has been left unglazed and is decorated with a square divided into two white and two black section accompanied on each side by two circles with the same patterns...

Here we present a real old Ko-Karatsu Tenmoku Chawan with a wonderful yobitsugi repair. It dates from the early stages of the Japanese Azushi-Momoyama Period (1573-1603).

A yobitsugi repair is not just a simple repair, it is a recreation by using laquer and some fragments of broken pottery of the same or a similar kiln. The result is a breathtaking consistency of 'landscape' (keshiki). The chawan is ready for use - tea does not leak.

Half cylinder shaped (Hanzutsu) tea bowl, thrown from light, coarse Mino clay, with very little inclusions a clay found on earlier Shino bowls. The walls are cut with a potters knife.

The bowl has been covered fully (with the exception of the foot ring) first with an iron bearing engobe (oniita) and after the decoration had been incised with the typical ash and feldspar glaze inside and outside creating the nezumi-shino glaze.
