Meiji (1868-1912) Japanese Makie Lacquer Inro with Agate Ojime & Manju with Turtle

It is 3.5 inches (9.8 cm) tall by 2.5 inches (6.3 cm) wide. Manju 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide. It is 96 gram.

It has small chips, peeling of lacquer, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos) .

A scarce and nicely formed bronze netsuke. The sculptural group depicts festival musicians playing a Taiko drum and Shinobue flute - the drum player with mask pulled back. Nicely detailed, down to the fingers and expressions of the musicians. The himotoshi is formed by the extended arm of one figure supporting the figure atop the Taiko. Edo period, 19th century. Antique Japanese small netsuke (inro toggle) carved in the form of a rural house under a large pine tree. The 2 story house, which is visible from three sides has multiple windows and a tiny figure standing in one. The pine tree with exaggerated branches grows on the side of the house, it's branches curving over it's roof. Carved of bone.

The arquebuse is technically perfectly detailed, its mechanism works. The barrel of the cannon is made of iron inlaid with bronze silver and gold. The carriage is made of very dense black wood, probably ebony inlaid with mother-of-pearl. A small metal key allows it to be dismantled, leaving the incised signature of the artist to appear under the barrel Kuni-Tomo familly perhaps Sada-Hisa who liked to depict birds and flowers on his tsubas? Edo period 19th century or earlier...

Nicely detailed rendering of a tree stump with its rough textured exterior contrasting with a smooth top and bottom that are styled in a star shaped manner.
