DAY FINE ARTS
Sold Six pages (3 double sides) of a Tibetan/Mongolian music manuscript with YANG-YIG GRAPHIC MUSIC NOTATION. Inks on paper. Good condition, finger marks to corners, stain across centre fold, each page 19 x 6 cm cm. Undated estimated to be late 19th century or earlier. In thick double fronted mount.
Can be viewed in London.
Such texts would have been used as a mnemonic device by the master of chant. The type of graphic notation of the melody line goes back to the 6th century...
A very fine and detailed piece inlaid with silver and copper. In the center a sitting Tirthankara. Beautiful wear and patina due to centuries of worshipping. H. 13 cm. Provenance: private collection Belgium.
From Maharashtra or Karnataka. H. 14 cm. The 23rd Tirthankara is symbolized by the cobra, which is modeled on the back of the figure.

Sold. A mother-of-pearl and bone inlaid wood crucifix, fixed on a pyramidal base and with affixed cylinders. Decorated with symbols of the Franciscan order, geometric and floral patterns. The origin (and age)of these crosses is still not evident, they are attributed to the Near East, specifically the Jerusalem area or the Indian Subcontinent, Gujarat. Condition: few missing inlays, few cracks, reverse with oldly filled cracks, top of base with apparently missing inlays...

From the collection of Irwin Hersey, renowned author on Asian and primitive art, and publisher of the Primitive Art Newsletter in the 1970s. Irwin Hersey was an advisor to museums and prominent collectors, and vetted pieces for many of the international tribal art fairs and Asian art fairs.

Sold. An Indian Kalamkari mat, probably from Coromandel coast, made of slightly padded and quilted chintz. The cotton ground is block-printed and painted with a central medallion surrounded by meandering exotic flowers and crenelation. Lined with printed cotton, indigo dyed fabric edging. Condition: clean, few very small old mends, little small age stains. Dimension: 121 cm x 83 cm.

Price on Request From our Indian Subcontinent Collection, a good Kashmiri silver surahi (water flask), 19th century, of compressed globular base with elongated neck and attached stopper secured by linked silver chain, well-decorated with chased vegetal and floral designs typical for Kashmiri silversmithing of this period. Overall a very attractive example with elegant proportions and good presence.
Size and Condition: 9 1/2 inches tall, 5 1/2 inches in diameter at its widest point on base...

The youthful face is well defined with handsome features following a classical Hellenistic-Greek style. The crescent shaped hair is toped by a raised ushnisha and a small urna is between the delicately arched eyebrows. The ear has a large pierced lobe. The nose and earlobe are slightly chipped, but inconsequential when
considering the overall beauty of the exceptional face...
