Unusual set of 18 antique bells strung together on a chain, used by Tamang Shaman’s who go into a trancelike state to communicate with spirits. The Tamang are related to the Tibetans and inhabit the Nepal, Bhutan and India. Most of the older bells seem to be made of a tin/iron alloy while there are a few bronze and brass bells on it. When you rattle it, sounds like a herd of yaks coming down the mountain. There is cigarette lighter for scale, total length of the chain 96cm/37.5in.

This is a fragment from a Tibetan gilt copper mandorla, one of the side pieces that would have surrounded the central statue/figure. It measures 9-1/2" in height and is 3" at its widest point. The design, as the photos will show, is in four registers, with the Buddha uppermost. The workmanship is of excellent quality as, hopefully, the photos will confirm. There is a tiny split in the left edge so that the top panel could become detached if the piece were handled roughly...
