Chinese glove puppet depicting a man with bright opera face paint and long beard that appears to be horse hair dressed in a heavily sequined pale yellow robe with red fur accents. The legs are covered in red and white checkered trousers. Painted wood face, shoes, and hands. Measures about 18" long. Possibly dates from the early 20th century. A tall elongated squared baluster form vase with vertical flanges to the corners and lion mask handles to the neck. Decorated with Taotie panels to the body and smaller lingzhi panels to the neck possibly cast and chiselled and parcel gilding. A small finely carved amber and translucent white coloured soapstone figure group depicting the Daoist Immortal Liu Hai 劉海 and, unusually, a Pixiu.

This item was probably made for the Scholar's table as a tactile handling object in the 17th or early 18th Century, possibly during the reign of the Kangxi emperor (1662 - 1722).

Condition: the tip of the plantain leaf base is broken off but the figure group is fully intact...

Very good overall condition with typical wear and soiling. From the private collection of a former American expatriate to Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.

Chinese monochrome purple peking glass cup and saucer. The glass has a deep purple tone. Both the cup and dish have flared rims and a round, recessed foot.

A rare and complete group of an ox and carriage in grey pottery with remains of polychrome. China, Tang Dynasty (618-907). The result of the thermoluminescence test by Kotalla is consistent with the dating of this lot. The report is included in the sale. Dimensions: the carriage H. 32 cm, L. 23 cm, the ox H. 18 cm, L. 23 cm. Condition: very good, no visible repairs, although repairs on early pottery are quite common and accepted. A rare black glazed Song wine jar with two handles and a spout for pouring. These containers were used for offering a sweet rice wine. You will sometimes find remnants of the wine in the bottom of the jar that has solidified. Size: H: 27.3cm. Condition: No repairs. In it's original condition.

A pale celadon (off-white) Chinese jade of a cat reclining on a single, slightly curved leaf. The back of the leaf is carved with the leaf's venation. It is a delicate piece that has a hole carved at the top of the leaf enabling it to be used as a pendant. Size: L.5cm, W.3cm.

Flattened Circular flask form, with slightly flared neck, with stylized chi-longs crawling up on the sides, having an oval raised footing with a high indentation underneath. Wide, slightly concave mouth. Its symmetrical formal shape tells us that it was probably made to represent an antique flask. Its style resembles that of some porcelain and enameled snuff bottles made during the 18th century. Well-hollowed...

This is Mutton-Fat White Jade Snuf Bottle of flattened, upright rectangular form with rounded, sloping shoulders, rounded neck, with a raised elongated oval footing. Undecorated, but, perfectly polished, and sporting a wonderful symmetry all around, and an even, near-flawless bright tone all throughout. Well-hollowed. It comes with a green jadeite flattened stopper. Its style is common of snuff bottles produced during the early 19th century...
